Vigil Monitor is an independent UK-based research organisation identifying civilian harms in stabilisation contexts. Our research is driven by the need for timeliness, responding quickly and sometimes even pre-empting violence against civilians. An array of remote access data methodologies are the core of our work, such as rapid return satellite imagery, which are fused with information inputs from field research partners. Accumulating a data picture over time, we track the morphology of conflict — how it starts, changes, and who is affected by the course of fighting — to inform decisionmakers. Vigil is also the recipient of the 2021 ‘Do Good’ award from PlanetLabs.
